Again echoing all that was said above, great day had by all. Kit was spot on, not a single person looked out of place. Not that you could tell in the bush which is eversley :giggle:

I was part of the allied unit "Eagles" who were a bit undermanned and some how always had the centre! :slap: We had some good banter with the other allied units. (Bulls and Rifles)

Most memorable 2 parts of the day was the Eagle attack on the motrar pits with only a few german defenders and with accurate garand fire, smokes and nades managed to clear it before long. However the sneaky germans had another unit move round the side and all our hand work was cut short as we only managed to hold the flag for a few minutes. Ian from the dagenham nazi's managed a good shot on me before I could grab my pistol! (the bugger!)

The other was the joint attack made by eagles and bulls on the hill with the rifles covering our left flank out of view. With rugged determination we made our advance under heavy fire. Sgt Johnny's greasegun jammed so ran to the hill with some grenades and managed some great grenade throws to take out 2 groups of germans. As i looked around the bulls were advancing and there was smoke, sounds of gun fire and the noises of the wounded. It looked great. However as we neared the ridge with ammo getting low the all to common shout of "Thier behind us" rang out. The rifles had been beaten into the ground and the germans had circled us. With the radios sounding a retreat a few went down the hill only to be cut down by Germans in the trees the others who had almost made it too the top let out a grumble and made what little we could muster for a last stand.

The only thing I think could of been improved is that we were meant to be holding 6 locations as "defenders" but even before we got to the first flag we had made contact. Which was less than a minute from our "Germans Bugger off point". This meant even before the day had really begun the germans held pretty much 5/6 6/6 of the flags from the get go (even though they needed to wait a couple of mins with an officer to capture it and raise a red flag) I feel we should of had a chance to dig in at the nearest 3 flags to offer some resitance instead of the germans just casually walking in, waiting a couple of mins before capturing. Although this didnt spoil the game in anyway but was this intentional? Or was we just unlucky that a patrol on each team bumped into eachother which esculated with more units joining in the first minute of two.

Stu

a Few Pics to follow which was in the first 60 seconds before contact.

There have been several comments about squading up and certainly did work well at this game. Not just good looking when you have seperate squads of feild gray, SS and Luftwaffe rather than all mixed together but also helped tremendously when it came to keeping squad cohesion which was great at this game. Unfortunately at some smaller games this is just not possible as the realities are that people have to come in whatever kit they have, and also sometimes its just nice to try out your new uniform :slap:

The 34th as always looked great and fight as such a well coordinated team its almost a pleasure to be overun by them and spend some time dead watching their teamwork :good:

Only allowing officers to capture CP's also worked well as it meant that small groups had little influence on the battle and if split up you HAD to try to link up with the main body ASAP. It also made officers important to the war effort, perhaps we should have protected Andy and Bosh better

Yes, the 34th are very scary to fight. I hugely enjoyed the attack on the LZ behind the 'barrage' of grenades and smoke, wiped us all out in minutes!

Cheers

Big thanks to Josh and his helpers for running another successful event. Was good to be back involved after a gap from airsoft of around a year and a half, just a shame that I pulled my hamstring early on Saturday afternoon and had to call it a day early! :x

Interesting site, hard work fighting through the scrub, searching for a glimpse of the enemy...only to then be hit by a well thrown grenade or hail of BB's!

Great to see old hands (Steiner, Boshman, Prideofengland et al) again, and meet some some new faces too. +1 to getting squads organised before, our Zug scrubbed up well and it was good to have a strategy/structure put down in advance.

On to the next event!

Not much more to add on top of what has already been said. A very enjoyable day. :good: Big thanks to Josh and all who organised and took part.

Great to see old friends and make some new ones too. The pioneer zug looked the mutts and fought well. mostly we managed to stay as cohesive units although the thick undergrowth made it difficult at times and we seemed to find ourselves stuck fighting around the fuel dump and the motar pits most of the day. I enjoyed our little foray into the badlands and the plantation despite the only enemy we met being the stagnant bog

The full kit challenge was fun although my back and knees didn't think so by the end o the day. Martin was a trooper sticking with the shovel all day. I've worn it once at an event my self and I'd had enough of it by lunchtime.

On another note, does anyone know what happened to my MG ammo tin which we had the motar rounds in? last I saw it was with the field supply pack so hopefully Josh has it safe and sound!?

Roll on the next one!

Yes, it isn't much good having well dubbined boots when the water overtops them. The waterproofing just keeps it inside the boots rather than letting it out again...

Some great comments have already been posted and as usual, big thanks to the Gunman team :good: Having squads pre-organised did a lot for the game cohesion and allowed for a better experience. I was part of Eagle squad who all performed excellently :good: WW2STU has already mentioned a good point in at the beginning of the game, we were sent out to establish a defensive position. However, we hadn't travelled 50mtrs before being stopped in our tracks. The game got bogged down in the rhododendrons and our casualties soon mounted  The Germans tactics were spot on, leaving one or two men in deep cover, putting fire down on us and making us go to ground. As we stalled, a German flanking unit got around or behind us and gave us a bit of a hammering. This was the general pattern of play. The Allies were somewhat bemused having expected to be defending from dug in positions only to find the opposite. A successful attack on the mortar pits by our squad was a highlight and was carried out with verve and flare! A change of tactics was required and we headed off to assault the mortar position on the hill. The bulls took the right eagles centre thru the valley and the rifles were tasked with hold our rear from the ridge opposite. In went the attack and with excellent pressure from the Bulls we managed to get a foothold on the hill. With the Eagles suppressing well, I managed to make my way up to the pits supported by Peepnuts and Jamie. Having nothing but a rigger pouch full of grenades, we took out the forward defences. With no weapon with which to shoot and the realisation that the rifles had been overran, things didn't look good. Certain death or captivity loomed so a death or glory charge was the only way. The attack was glorious and partially successful and I died with honor :happydance: big respect to the defending Krauts who could have easily questioned the grenade kills due to what cover was there but took them non the less! It was a great, visual experience. The Eagles later went on to take several cps and worked under the German radar for a while. Mention goes to Jerry a trick for his deployment of a highly successful booby trap which took out several enemy trying to take the LZ. A bit of a rummage in the rhododendrons scored us more grenade kills (Ian, don't you run boy!) but we were now on the fringes of the game. Sunday saw the Eagles numbers reduced significantly and we spent the day as a decoy / harassing force. We had some success however, the sneaky scouting had a reality that some times fire fights lack. All in all a great weekend, some memorable moments and a sodden sleeping bag (those who were there know what I refer to). I for one will do what I can to get organised into a squad for the next one. Well done all :good:

First off, thanks to Josh and all the guys at Gunman for running a cracking weekend. Also a massive thank you to the Dog co boys, who let me have tent floor space. :good:

For me, saturday morning was pretty heavy going as we couldn't move 5 feet without getting pinned down by enemy fire. Reminded me about stories of fighting in the Normandy bocage. However by the afternoon the allies were all working together and we carried out some great assaults against german held positions. A highlight was defiantly the trip wire grenade. I didn't even see it go off, I just heard a bang followed by a cheer from the Americans. :giggle: A shout out to all the Brits from rifle section. Badging up as 11th armoured was simple, but gave us a really effective look.

Sunday was also great even though we were outnumbered 2:1. Holding the defensive position by the mortar pits on the ridge felt really atmospheric, even if we were rather quickly over-run. However for me, the best action of the whole weekend was holding the defensive position on the hill, right at the end of the weekend on sunday. Really great fun.

As stated by many others already, the kit standard level was excellent, and the gameplay and attitude of everyone was top notch. Great to see both new and old faces yet again.

The only downer for me was the cold at night, and feeling like I had broke my leg saturday night. But alas I survived.

Bring on the next one :happyclap:

A big thank you to josh and his merry men for all your hard work put into running the event :good:

Highlight of the day for me was the attack on the hill, the veiw I had from the top of the hill was just amazing. All I could see was smoke, grenades and lots of dead yanks and Germans sprawled across the floor and in amongst the gunfire I was screaming for a engineer to disable a mine. It was a well organised assault with the Eagles in the centre us bulls on the top right and the rifles watching our left flank, to which the rifles was unfortunately over run and ze krauts took us all out
To be fair to the Germans on the hill you did extremely well to hold us off for as long as you did just another 2 more minutes and we might have captured it, but the guys who flanked us did a great job.
Fantastic site and fantastic game play from both sides and can't wait for the next one :D

No wonder you guys said we look scary I've just looked at the photos and your right we are damn ugly :P

Guess who it was who set it off? I may have survived defusing the mines, but still managed to maintain the tradition of blowing myself up at least once :happyclap:

Cheers all for the feedback. OMOO I could and will do more in the field. As you all know the original scenario had to be crapped due to a sudden border dispute, but you all coped fantastically. We needed the whole 65 acres however, the 50 we used wasn't enough for me or battles. We addressed the pinned issue and the game flowed loads better. My praise goes to all of you in the field, who played an awesome game, all in the right spirit. Thank you all.

Boshman - I have your ammo tin bud. PM me;)

I think the site is perfect for WW2 scenarios in a lingerer format, but will look to other sites for open battle. The Herts Site is the best one locally I have found so far. Im trying to get us to candleston in south wales for Novembers game :good:

This was my first proper WW2 game and suffice to say it was some of the best gameplay I've experienced since starting airsoft many years ago! There were some great moments over the weekend, particularly assaulting the mortar position under the cover of smokes, (impressed by the gallant efforts of the chap at whom I shouted "surrender" from 3 meters away only to hear "NEVER!" :) ) , some rather intense cqb when storming the lz and even though we were outnumbered more than 2 to 1 on Sunday, thanks to the organisers we ended on a high note with a dramatic last stand. The effort on all sides was fantastic with the Germans looking top notch and some very emphatic death shouts. Hit-taking was great too.

Thanks to Josh and his team for organising the game, our commander for coordinating the squads and a big thanks to the 34th for welcoming me into their team, it was a pleasure to fight alongside you guys. Overall a very pleasurable weekend :good:

thanks for stan joining us , what's your name on this forum ?

Dast ist me!

It was a pleasure having you in our squad stan, you're more than welcome to tag along with us at any future games :good:
